WELCOME
Our family has been living at Killruddery since 1618 and today we are very happy that three generations live here. Living heritage on Dublin’s doorstep!
Killruddery is a true celebration of the great outdoors and an authentic, bio-diverse space. We continue to meet long-standing Members who enjoy Killruddery as their own back garden; it is our delight to build a strong community here who are as passionate about conserving this estate as we are. We produce chemical-free vegetables, fruit, cut-flowers and free-range meats for our Farm Shop and all our ‘garden-to-plate’ menus for The Grain Store, Pizza Shed, Coffee Shop, Tea Room and Carrot & Coffee Corner.
Over the past decade, we have responded to the challenge of preserving the House and Gardens by transforming Killruddery into a popular visitor attraction on Ireland’s Ancient East, a working farm and a private hire venue for weddings and corporate events. However, at the heart of this enterprise, we wish to protect Killruddery’s soul and unique character as our special family home.
You are most welcome. We hope you will enjoy your visit and return again and again.
Earl and Countess of Meath, Lord and Lady Ardee and the Brabazon family.

A WALK THROUGH THE TREES WITH JACK MEATH
SUNDAY 21ST APRIL
MEMBERS: FREE
NON-MEMBER ADULTS: €10.50
NON-MEMBER CONCESSION: €9.50
On Sunday the 21st April, very much in the spirit of sharing knowledge and planting trees for a greener future, Jack Meath invites you on a Walk and Talk around the Gardens and near by woodlands of Killruddery, when he will indicate some of the more unusual trees.
Jack Meath (15th Earl) has been involved in lifelong Land Management and has ample views on the Land Commission and its impact on Irish life and landscape. A forester by training, he knows the Estate intimately making decisions for each area of the woodlands based on their bio-diversity and preservation. He plants new trees which he then tends to on an annual basis. His enthusiasm and steadfast manner never dwindles. Jack very much looks forward to sharing what he knows of the Trees of Killruddery with you.

KILLRUDDERY CUT FLOWERS PRESENTS: WEAVE YOUR OWN OBELISK WITH SARAH JENKINSON
SUNDAY, 28TH APRIL
ADULT: €160
ADULT MEMBER: €144
EVENT DESCRIPTION
Join Killruddery Cut Flowers this summer and learn the craft of willow weaving with master basket weaver, Sarah Jenkinson as you weave an obelisk to support your sweet pea or other chosen climber. This workshop is a good introduction to working with willow and you will be shown a variety of traditional weaves and basket making techniques.
Hosted by Lady Fionnuala Aston-Ardee, all materials for this workshop are provided, and this workshop promises bounty in plenty as everyone will leave with their own woven four-foot obelisk and sweet pea seeds to grow, along with nourishment and relaxation through plenty of complimentary tea/coffee + baked goods, and a long table lunch in The Grain Store cooked by our Head Chef Niall O’Sullivan, complete with an accompanying glass of bubbles.
To ensure high quality tuition and support, numbers for this workshop are limited.
ABOUT SARAH JENKINSON
Sarah Jenkinson lives and works in Galway city as a full time basketmaker. Sarah made her first willow basket a few years ago and instantly fell in love with the uniquely spiced aroma and texture of willow, and the ancient craft of basketmaking. Having been given the opportunity to work as an apprentice with Ciaran Hogan at his workshop and shop at the Spiddal Craft Centre, it was here that Sarah developed her skills and love for traditional Irish basketmaking along with attending basketmaking residencies all over Europe where she learned new basketry skills from many talented basketmakers.
Sarah loves weaving with willow and she has found that the ancient craft of basketmaking has rooted her in a very special place, deeply connected to the earth. Sarah weaves baskets with barked willow allowing the stunning natural colours and the uniquely spiced aroma of the willow varieties to shine through on each basket. Sarah also grows various willow varieties in a small Salley Garden in Connemara from which she harvests willow every winter for use in her baskets.

MEMBERS EVENT - NATIONAL DAWN CHORUS WALK
SUNDAY, 5TH MAY
ADULT MEMBER: €10
CHILD MEMBER: €6
EVENT DESCRIPTION
It will be cold at 4.30 a.m. when we all meet up at the steps of the Garden from the Forecourt of Killruddery House. Cold + Dark - you should dress warmly and wear good shoes - perhaps you will be clutching a warm flask. We will gather in the dark and the gloom will envelope us, momentarily. We will quietly say hello to one another in awe of the night. After a memorable ‘age’, one bird will call, announcing mornings rays, that will encourage us, another call and slowly two or three more, Justin will begin to point out who’s who. Morning’s rays will follow quickly and before we know it we will be off round the garden and into the farm walking, watching and listening to the birds - and to Justin as he points out the various tunes.
We love this annual pilgrimage of the birds and we think you will too. If you’ve been before welcome back and if you have not been before - prepare to be charmed, either way book quickly as this fills up fast! We will complete the morning with a breakfast at the Tea Room around 7 or 7.30. There will be lovely coffee and breakfast items and by 8.30 you can decide whether its home to bed or to face the day with just a little less sleep, either way with a head full of the Dawn Chorus - See you there! Our special thanks to Justin who does this event annually for the joy of it as a volunteer.
