How to add News
There are two types of News posts on the Killruddery website.
- A general news post (such as news about a particular event).
- A Newsletter post (which triggers a mailchimp email campaign)
The procedure for creating both types are the same. The only difference is the post category you give to each (explained below).
To create a post:
- Click on the Posts tab in the left sidebar
- Then click on Add New. This will take you to the place where you create the post.
- Enter the title of the post where it says Enter title here.
- Then you can write your post in the WYSIWYG box below the title. The icons at the top are similar to what you may be used to in Microsoft Word, bar a few items:
- To insert an image, click on the Upload/Insert link just above the edit box. Then just follow the onscreen instructions to locate and upload your image. Note: when creating a Newsletter post (for a Mailchimp campaign) the maximum image with is 600 pixels. Otherwise the image will bleed outside the email frame.
- To create a link to another page or website, select the text (or image) you want to become the link. Then click on the Chain icon in the top row of icons.
- To find out what the other buttons do, just hover over them or see more details here.
- Then, you need to assign the post a category. This dictates how and where the post will appear on the website. You can see the categories list just under the blue Publish button.
- For a general news post, just select Latest News and then the type of news it is (either about the farm or the gardens etc). You can select as many as you like.
- To make it a Newsletter post, select Latest News and then Newsletter. The Newsletter category will send any post to the email mailing list service, Mailchimp. At 4pm each day Mailchimp wil send out any news from that day to all those people on the Killruddery mailing list.
- Then, to see a preview of how your post will look, click on the Preview button on the right side.
- By default, all posts are sent to the Killruddery Facebook Page when published. If you do not want to do that, you need to check the Do not add link to Facebook box just above the blue Publish button.
- If you are happy how the post looks, click on the blue Publish button on the right.
To edit an existing post:
- Click on the Posts tab in the left sidebar
- You will then see the list of published posts.
- Simply click on the post title and you will be taken to the original post edit screen.
