ABOUT THE EVENT
There are many reasons to celebrate the life and achievements of Christy Brown in 2009, as this year marks the 55th anniversary of the publication of his profoundly moving autobiography My Left Foot and the 20th anniversary since the production of the Oscar winning film. Killruddery Gardens, will be the venue for an outdoor screening of the movie on Saturday, 29th August at 8 pm.
Annually, Killruddery supports the activities of Heritage Week and since ‘My Left Foot’ was part filmed in the House and Gardens, it is entirely appropriate to mark it’s success in front of as many people as possible.
Daniel Day Lewis who played the part of Christy Brown won the Best Actor award at the 1990 Oscar ceremony was recently awarded the Freedom of Co. Wicklow.
A short film selected by Killruddery Silent Film Festival will precede the screening of My Left Foot.
The seating area for rugs and picnics will be on the terraces of the East Lawn near to many of the location scenes that will be seen throughout film. Delicious movie snacks will be served from The Garden Café at Killruddery.
