YARN: Breton Tales After Dark , Presented by John Edgar
Sat 12 Nov 2011 | 20:00 | Arts
“In the daytime the land belongs to the living. But after dark ...”
Writer, storyteller and performer John Edgar’s show is a collection of dark, eccentric and often bleakly funny stories of Breton life, and death, after sunset, in a land where daytime is for the living but night is the exclusive province of the dead. It’s a time when trees walk, dead skulls regain the power of speech and the locals venture abroad with their heads down, hoping that they won’t encounter the Ankou with his fatal scythe or the strange and charming horseman eager to invite you to supper in his mansion house below ground, where, whatever the weather outside, it’s always warm.
Yarn is a Mermaid Arts Initiative for more information please see www.mermaidartscentre.ie.
Tickets are free but booking is essential, please call 01-2724030 to reserve your place.

Killruddery Farm Market
Sat 5 May 2012 | 10:00 |
We had a great Market on Easter Sunday. There was lots of enthusiasm from the stall holders and great support from the local community. It's great to see the Horseyard, which is so full of character, becoming alive again after so many years of slumber. After the huge success of the market on Easter Sunday we are going to have one on the first Saturday of the month until the end of the season in October so the next one is the 5th May . It’s a showcase for the artisan, craft and creative community of Bray, Wicklow and beyond with more than 30 stalls located indoors and outdoors at the former Horseyard on the estate. Indeed, many of the food and craft stalls who participated at Easter will return including Corleggy Cheese, Malone’s Fruit Farm, Little Delights, Wild Irish Patês, Kingfisher Tea, Simply Toys, Veronica Roden Jewellery, The Real Olive Company and Carrigamuc Cottage Chemical Free vegetables. Some confirmed new additions to the market include Hamburger Marys, YUM, Silverdaze, Ponchokids, Moonwave Nursery , Bookaholic and Vintage Kids. The hugely popular Crepe Box will also be serving delicious sweet and savoury pancakes made from free range eggs sourced locally from Bushy Farm in Delgany. There’s plenty of room so we can accommodate a wide array of market stalls. We were going to have some nice Killruddery ewe-lambs for sale in the Easter Market but they were too jumpy and kept escaping so we put them back out in the field. Hopefully we can make a better pen for them for this time.
The event commences at 10am, concluding at 4pm. The Farm Market is free, however the admission fee to the garden is €6.50 for adults and free for children under the age of 12. Elsewhere at Killruddery on Saturday, 5th May 2012 early risers can attend a Dawn Chorus walk led by bird expert Eanna O’Sullivan. A Teddy Bear’s Picnic is also planned for kids and their favourite soft toys and dolls on Sunday, 6th May 2012.
Anyone who would like a stall should contact market@killruddery.com to see if there is availability.
Teddy Bears' Picnic
Sun 6 May 2012 | 12:00 | Family
Sunday, May 6th is the day the Teddy Bears have their picnic at Killruddery. The afternoon will be filled with fun and games and promises to be a great day out, so why not round up all the family (both human and teddy alike) and make your way to the Teddy Bears picnic?
Don’t be worried if your teddy or doll is not looking its best, the Teddy and Dolls Hospital will set up in a special tent beside the Beech Pond, where a team of professional paramedics and nurses will be on hand to restore your favourite dolls or teddies to their former glory.
Once everyone is feeling strong and brave, it will be time to take a walk through the beautiful Killruddery Gardens down to the woods to meet the Killruddery Bear Family (they’re very friendly, we promise!).
Mamma Bears and Pappa Bears will be very hungry so they may want to visit the Tearoom where they can feast on some delicious dishes including seasonal garden salads, mouth watering scones and cakes.
Baby Bears can tuck into some special treats including strawberry and chocolate spread crepes from the Crepe Box which is right next door to the Tea Room so they will have plenty of energy for the fun and games still to come. Mums and Dads can also enjoy a two piece jazz band in the Walled Garden while children frolic with their bears and enjoy Wicklow’s biggest sandpit.
Whether you’re out for an exciting day of family adventure or just a lovely picnic in the Gardens, the Teddy Bears Picnic s is a day you won’t want to miss! Normal garden entrance applies for this event at €6.50 per adult and children under 12 are free.

A Victorian Midsummer's Banquet
Fri 29 Jun 2012 | 20:00 | Arcadia Festival
The three course meal first appeared at the turn of the century. Until then, banquets comprised a table laden with sweet and savory dishes and diners would choose to eat the food as their palate dictated.
Due to events of great national importance we have changed the night of the banquet to the 29th of June we will re-create this experience by laying a candle lit banquet tables and inviting you and some friends to join one large table in a Midsummer feast.
We don't want to give too much away, but you can expect handsome butlers serving spit roast Killruddery mutton, summer puddings and punchy punches!
For those of you who do not know The Orangery, it was built in the 1850's after the fashion of the great Crystal Palace in London. It's high glass roof and two walls of windows looking out on to the formal 17th century gardens; it's marble floors and its collection of white statues make it a distinctive part of the local landscape.
While away the evening in the company of friends and simple fine foods inspired by Victoriana and great ingredients from Killruddery farm and gardens and other local suppliers.
Tickets are €55 per person. Please use our booking form below.
As this is an evening event, tickets can only be secured by credit card payment. Please contact us at events@killruddery.com if you have any quieries.

Wed 5 Sep 2012 until 26 Sep 2012 | 11:00 |
The Killruddery summer season will soon be coming to an end. On September 30th, we will be closing the gardens on weekdays, remaining open at the weekends until the end of October. As a little preparation for winter we are popping up a September knitting circle.
Our resident expert knitter will be leading a knitting circle on Wednesday mornings at 11am for the month of September. Starting on September 5th, for a limited period of 4 weeks, we will take our knitting needles and wool and settle in the Tearoom for an hour every Wednesday morning. The circle is open to everyone, from beginners to seasoned knitting veterans.
Whether it’s simply the company of other knitters, assistance with a more complicated pattern or help with the first steps, your mentor will be on hand to offer guidance. If you don't have a project in mind; our suggestion is a string of knitted bunting to be made over the course of four weeks! We'll have this pattern ready to go so you can just grab some nice wool and needles and knitted bunting will be within your four week reach!
So whether you want to get your hooks into a new skill or just want to enjoy some good company while you knit this class is the perfect way to spend a Wednesday morning as well as a great opportunity to make some new friends. The Killruddery Tearoom will have some delightful treats on sale including freshly made scones and the most delicious coffee and tea, after the knitting circle why not stay and have an early lunch!
Booking is not necessary, but 3mm/4mm needles and wool are. (NOTE: this size applies to bunting, if taking along own pattern and idea, do check size of needles and wool needed).

Dawn Chorus Walk
Sat 11 May 2013 | 05:00 | Ecology
It is amazing, that Killruddery is so close to the M11 and still so close to nature, a feeling of peace and the best kind of isolation. Walking, at dawn, with an expert on the dawn chorus, with birds all around you, on the grounds of the estate truly is an experience. As you walk the expert will help you identify individual bird calls from the symphony. If you are a member of Killruddery, register for this event and you will never miss it again. It is well worth the early start; the early bird catches the worm!
