06/07/2012

The Enchanted Garden is nearly upon us. Just one week to go so we thought that you might like to know a little bit more about what will be going on over the weekend.

This is the main making day of the festival but there will be lots to see and do as well.

Butterfly and swan workshop. – (Age 0-12). Create your own butterfly costume and flitter and flutter or create your own swan costume and learn to move gracefully around the garden in movement workshops with Queen of the Swans Monika and her assistants. Then you can wear your costume at the creature Olympics games to take place on Sunday 15th July

Dragonfly workshop –(age 0-12). Create a dragonfly and dare to fly it dangerously high!

Workshop’s will be on a rolling basis throughout the day.

Other highlights on Saturday include

Help the artists build wickerwork willow sculpture of a baby Elephant. Artists will build a life-size Pachyderm from wood, willow and straw over the course of the festival weekend.

Step into the Jungle in the Orangery- come and enjoy the jungle soundscape and see if you can find the wild things lurking in the leaves…

Kite display- Watch the expert kite-flying maestro Pablo displays his skills of aerial display over the lakes of Killruddery (weather permitting).

Walk about theatre: Giant Dragonflies and Butterflies will welcome, chase and entertain the children sporadically during the day. A couple off Ostriches and Giraffes will graze sporadically throughout the garden pursued hopelessly by some bumbling hunters.

Sunday 15th July 2012 11.00am – 5pm

For those of you who opt just to come on Sunday, children will have a chance to create their costumes for two hours in 11am -1pm.

Then it’s off to the Olympics and into a parade and finishing with an Olympic award ceremony, Kids disco and chill out party time for all.

At various times throughout the day Killruddery becomes host to the wonderful animals of the African Plains. Giraffes and Ostriches graze the grass while avoiding the hopeless hunters.

1.00pm Let the Olympic games begin…. The animals and insects of Killruddery have come alive to make their own unusual Olympic Games. Join Geraldo and his team of game masters to be part of the fun, test your skills against the best. Bring your running shoes and put on your fastest feet to take part.

Race the Caterpillars to see who is the fastest.

See how slow you can go in the Snail Pace Race.

Lift the huge spoons and try not to drop the eggs….

Using the creations from the workshops, children will have the opportunity to take part in the Beautiful Butterfly and Super Swan dance contest and display the daring Dragonflies dangerous flight manoeuvres.

2.20pm Join the parade of all the animals in anticipation of the final event.

2.50pm Awards ceremony held at the end of the events for race winners and best Butterfly and Caterpillar, Snail and Big spoon and egg races.

3.30pm Clancy Brothers and Team of Makers join the crowd, leaving some of the puppets displayed on stands for people to look at and ask questions about.

4.00pm Chill out an grab a bite to eat and let the children boogie! Kids Disco begins (only funky kids music allowed) and a number of artisan food stalls will be open for business including Argentine Grill, Ed Hicks sausages, the Crepe Box and the Killruddery Coffee Wagon.

Painting and making and running about the garden can be a messy business so we ask that children and adults come dressed in clothes they don’t mind getting a bit mucky and painty.

To avoid the queues we recommend that you book your place in advance. Tickets can be booked here or they are also available ticket office at the entrance. Monday to Friday during office hours you can call 01 286 34 05 to book over the phone.
