Faerie Bush Day

Sun 31 Jul 2016 | 11:00 | Family

Faerie Bush Day pagae 28Become a woodland faerie for a day in a spellbinding outing in Killruddery’s forests.

Hear enthralling lore from the Faerie Queen, craft garlands, crowns and other items fit for a faerie tale, and embark on an exciting quest with a mystical guide to experience the four elements. Splash and slide through water, make mud pies and totem animals from the earth, hear the calls of the birds on the air and offer your earth creations to the fire.

All our visiting faeries will have the opportunity to make, to play and to experience the natural world through the old elements. Using the map collected from our entrance on arrival, follow the path to make your faerie crown from natural materials, walk through magic rain to the campfire, make an animal totem from the earth, relax in the air and listen to magical stories.
Tree Trunk and Branches Farm

And since faeries love all kinds of weather we recommend that you come along no matter the weather; and no matter the weather please bring your Faeries ready for water, muck, twigs, feathers, leaves, and magic.

Families are welcome to bring along their own picnics and the picnic area will be expanded from its usual walled confines to include the formal gardens.

If parents would prefer take the afternoon off from food preparation, we will have the Killruddery Barbecue fired up and laden with Killruddery beef, pork and lamb. Along with all the usual treats in the tearoom.

A fantastical adventure that’s sure to enchant everyone! Costumes can be worn, but take heed – they will get mucky!

Tickets: Regular garden admission fees apply, free to Killruddery members.

Alys Fowler’s Garden of Eden

Sun 16 Oct 2016 | 12:00 | Sunday Noontime Gardener's Talks

Alys FowlerDid you know the humble apple has its origins on the other side of the world? Alys Fowler travelled to Kazakhstan to visit the home of one of our favourite fruits, and learned of the danger the species now faces.

Kazakhstan is the birthplace of the original wild apple, making it something of a Garden of Eden in its own right, but its native fruit is now under threat. Officially classified as a vulnerable species, the wild apple is the ancestor of the very ones sitting on your kitchen table, and its genes could be the key to solving the problems of pests and disease we find in our own domestic apples.

Time: 12pm
