The performance will be kicking off at 7.30pm, but the Walled Garden gates will open at 6pm to give you plenty of time to choose the perfect spot in the Orchard at The Walled Garden Project and settle in for an evening of fun.
Why does the cat always grin? Because it’s a Cheshire cat. Who made the jam tarts? The Queen of Hearts, she made those tarts. Who is as mad as a Mad Hatter? It must be a Mad March Hare.
Once Alice follows the white rabbit down the rabbit hole, things just don’t seem right. Apart from grinning cats, murderous queens and mad hatters, she also meets a baby that turns into a pig, a couple of twins who can’t stop arguing and a mouse and a dodo who insists that she take part in a Caucus race. And if you don’t know what a Caucus race is then you really must come and enjoy an evening of absolute nonsense with Off The Ground’s latest production, Alice In Wonderland, adapted for the stage by Jim Foggin and directed by Dan Meigh.
This sixteen strong cast, who like Alice often believe as many as six impossible things before breakfast, will take you to the most memorable of wonderlands. There are dancing lobsters, a puppet walrus and singing turtles and that’s before Alice has cried a lake of her own tears or grown to the size of a tree, which startles a cockney pigeon. “This is our sixteenth year of touring,” says director Dan Meigh, “and definitely our most adventurous and exciting project yet. You can’t be small with Alice in Wonderland – it has to be magical and manic, like a cartoon on stage – and its definitely going to be like no other summer show!”
Children and adults alike are invited to join Alice on her famous journey of discovery in the beautiful surroundings of the Killruddery Walled Garden Project. Bring a blanket or something to sit on, as well as your most adventurous friends and family, and immerse yourself in C.S. Lewis’s wonderful world with this interactive and refreshing production.
If you’re too busy to bring your own picnic, you can order one in advance from the Killruddery Tearoom situated in the grounds in the delightful Ornamental Octagonal Dairy and which serves delicious, simple and healthy food sourced from the Killruddery grounds and local artisan producers, by calling 01 2863405 or emailing tearoom@killruddery.com.
Killruddery Tearooms will be providing refreshments within the Walled Gardens during the interval. The production will go ahead no matter what the weather, so whether you’re young or just young-at-heart, everyone who comes down to Killruddery for this Off the Ground production of Alice in Wonderland is guaranteed to find themselves smiling like a Cheshire cat and enjoying a great evening .
