The 7th Summer Festival of Opera featuring Ireland’s top young opera singing talents will be staged the Orangery for two separate Sunday afternoons this July 29 and August 5.
Once again, the event brings together Ireland’s best young established and up-and-coming opera singers, giving them the perfect platform on which to show their talents. This year’s line up includes soprano Claudia Boyle, who has been gaining much critical acclaim abroad recently for her superb singing talent. She is joined by mezzo-soprano Ann Marie Gibbons, bass baritone John Molloy and Laurence Thackery, tenor. They will perform with pianist Mairead Hurley on the first weekend of this unique opera musical event.
On the second Sunday of Summer Festival of Opera (Aug 5), tenor Dean Power makes a welcome return to Ireland from the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. He will be joined by internationally successful mezzo-soprano Sharon Carty, soprano Jennifer Davis, who swept the boards at this year’s Feis Ceoil and her fellow OTC young artist, baritone Padraic Rowan. Dearbhla Collins is the pianist on this occasion.
Summer Festival of Opera will feature popular arias, duets and ensembles from operas by Mozart, Puccini, Verdi and Gershwin.
The event has been staged by the Veronica Dunne International Singing Competition since 2005, and it is Ireland’s Grand Dame of opera, Veronica Dunne herself hosting these wonderful operatic garden parties. Now in it’s seventh year of showcasing the best of Irish operatic singing talents, many of whom who have been trained by the octogenarian classical voice trainer and Ireland’s leading voice coach, who is recognized world wide for her voice teaching techniques. Summer Festival of Opera is a ‘must-see’ event in the opera music diary.
